    Lily Chan

    Dr. Lily Chan is Chief Executive Officer of NUS Enterprise at the National University of Singapore. She leads NUS Enterprise with vision to inject an enterprise dimension to NUS teaching and research involving the University’s students, staff and alumni. In particular, Dry Chan spearheads strategies and initiatives to promote industry collaboration and business ventures for the University. She oversees the functions of the Enterprise Cluster which complements the academic cluster of the University to nurture talents with an entrepreneurial and global mindset. The Enterprise Cluster comprises three main divisions – NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC), Industry Liaison Office (ILO) and NUS Entrepreneurship Centre (NEC), which are supported by Corporate Services and the following Business units – NUS Extension (NEX), NUS Press and NUS Technology Holdings Pte Ltd (NTH).

    Tan Kai Hoe

    Deputy CEO

    Rear Admiral (NS) Tan Kai Hoe, 43, joined SPRING Singapore as the Deputy Chief Executive on 1 June 2009. His current portfolio includes driving SPRING’s efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship, spearheading the development of technology innovative enterprises, and overseeing SPRING’s quality & standards initiatives.

    Prior to joining SPRING, Kai Hoe was a naval officer in the Republic of Singapore Navy, where he rose to be the Chief of Staff – Naval Staff, overseeing the capability development of the Navy. In the Navy, he has undertaken various command appointments, including the Fleet Commander, Deputy Fleet Commander and Squadron Commander. He has also held staff portfolios in the Naval Staff headquarters, including as the Head of Naval Plans Department, responsible for the Navy’s capital acquisitions; and as the Head of Naval Training Department, in charge of the Navy’s training policies and its engagement with foreign navies. Kai Hoe was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Military) in 2007 for his contributions to the Navy.

    Over the years, Kai Hoe has also served on the boards of a number of companies and not-for-profit organizations, including the EXCO of Spastics Children Association of Singapore, the National Cadet Corps Council, Board of Governors of the Institute of Technical Education, the Board of Directors of ST Electronics and the Board of Directors of Unicorn International Pte Ltd.

    Benny Lee

    Mr. Benny Lee heads the Business Advisory Program (BAP) at the NUS Business School. Partnering Spring Singapore in this program, NUS Business School reaches out to help retrenched alumni find work in consulting assignments and short-term projects with local SMEs. Where the SMEs find the partnership suited to its business needs after six months, the SMEs will take them into its permanent fold. Funding for BAP comes from Spring (70%) and the SME (30%). To date, some 230 alumni and around 90 SMEs have signed up for BAP.

    Benny, on what inspires him to get involved and give back to society:
    “As experienced with BAP, it is rewarding in itself to help others find their way back when they are facing difficult situations.
    Aside from BAP, I am personally looking forward to helping NUS’s needier students pay for their school fees – the NUS Business School Alumni Association’s next project.”

    Jessica Tan Soon Neo

    Ms. Jessica Tan serves as Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore. Ms. Tan is responsible for developing and driving growth strategies for the Microsoft’s business in Singapore, as well as deepening relationships with partners, customers and employees. She also focuses on leading Microsoft’s ongoing corporate citizenship efforts in the country which includes Microsoft’s efforts to becoming a trusted industry partner who works with businesses, communities and governments to help advance social and economic well-being. In May 2006, she was elected as Member of Parliament in Singapore for the East Coast GRC. She is Chairman for the East Coast Town Council. She serves as a Director of Singapore Tourism Board. She is also Chairman for the Finance, Trade and Industry Group Parliamentary Committee (GPC) as well as Member of the Manpower GPC.

    Wong Poh Kam

    Dr. Poh Kam Wong is a Professor at the Business School of National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Director of NUS Entrepreneurship Centre. Through the centre, he oversees the university’s entrepreneurship education programs, as well as the university’s incubator, seed funding programs and mentoring scheme for nurturing spin-off companies by the university’s professors and students. He has published extensively in leading academic journals on high tech entrepreneurship and innovation policy in Asia, and has consulted frequently for technology companies in Asia, as well as international organizations such as the World Bank.

    He is an active angel investor in technology start-ups in Singapore, Asia and Silicon Valley, and is the founding Chairman of Business Angel Network Southeast Asia (BANSEA) and chairman and partner of BAF Spectrum Pte Ltd, a business angel fund based in Singapore. He is the initiator of StartUp@Singapore, the annual national business plan competition in Singapore since 1999.

    Victor Cheng

    Senior Assistant Director-General, Infrastructure and Capability Development Division

    Mr. Victor Cheng is currently the Senior Assistant Director-General in IPOS. Since May 2007, he oversees the Infrastructure and Capability Development Division as well as the Public Relations Department in IPOS.

    As the Senior Assistant Director-General in IPOS, Mr. Cheng is responsible for designing and implementing the IP infrastructure master plan to ensure that there is a conducive environment in Singapore to sustain the growth of IP.

    The Infrastructure and Capability Development Division is made up of four key departments namely, Public Outreach Department, Capability Development Department, Enterprise Development Department and Industry Development Department. Under Mr. Cheng’s leadership, they work hand in hand to catalyze and facilitate the development of IP market infrastructure and capabilities as well as to cultivate an IP savvy culture in Singapore to help boost economic growth.

    Prior to joining IPOS, Mr. Cheng started out as an inventor and entrepreneur – he has previously patented, managed and commercialized IP, started software companies and ran business operations in startups, R&D labs and listed companies. He brings with him 18 over years of applied IP experiences (including 3 years in the Silicon Valley) to IPOS and is part of the team to realize IPOS vision.

    Bernard Yeung

    Hailed from the New York University’s Stern School of Business where he is the Abraham Krasnoff Professor in Global Business, and a professor in Economics and Management, Prof Yeung’s extensive professional, research and teaching interests include international corporate finance; corporate strategy; foreign direct investment and multinational firm enterprises; the relationships between institutions, firm behaviour and economic development; the impact of cross border business activities on social economic development; and the international studies of capital market functionality.

    He has written more than a hundred research articles which have been widely published in top-rated journals in Economics, Finance, Strategic Management, International Business, and Accounting.

    Prof Yeung joined the New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1999, and distinguished himself as an eminent scholar, teacher and administrator during his tenure. He is also the Director of the NYU China House, the honorary co-chair of the Strategy Department of the Peking University Guanghua School of Management, and Advisory Professor at the East China Normal University. He is currently a Senior Consulting Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies, serves on the Editorial Board of the Academy of Management Review and as an Associate Editor of Management Science. He is also an elected Academy of International Business Fellow.

    On his move to NUS, Prof Yeung says, “I’m very excited about this opportunity to join NUS and will ensure that a great university will always have a great business school.

    “NUS Business School is a leading business school in this region. It enjoys a global standing that any business school will be very proud of. As dean, I’ll work to further strengthen and carry forward the School’s reputation for its strong leadership and educational excellence.”

    Prof Yeung received his bachelor of arts in economics and mathematics from the University of Western Ontario in 1979, and his MBA and PhD from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago in 1981 and 1984 respectively. He had previously taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Alberta.

    Andy Lim

    Mr. Andy Lim is the founder and Chairman of private equity firm Tembusu Partners and the Chairman and substantial shareholder of a publicly listed company Viking Offshore and Marine Limited. He is also the Executive Director of Associated Leisure International, a family holding company and Chairman of MoneyWorld Group of Companies, a leading foreign exchange player with offices in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.

    His other Board appointments include Chairman of Alpha Singapore, Chairman of government cooperative for ex-offenders, ISCOS, Council Member of the National Council for Anti-Drug Abuse (NCADA) and President of the Enterprise 50 Club, a leading association of the top 50 privately held companies in Singapore. In September 2004, Mr. Lim was appointed Honorary Consul to the Republic of Lithuania. The Shanghai – Pudong Branch of the China Overseas Friendship Association also appointed him as one of its Council members in May 2005.

    Mr. Lim was the top ‘O’ level student in Anglo-Chinese School in 1973.     Jeffrey Chi

    Dr. Jeffrey Chi is Managing Director and Partner Vickers Venture Partners (a member of the Vickers Capital Group). Dr. Chi’s experience covers a variety of industries including information technology, healthcare and media. Based in Shanghai, he oversees the Group’s venture capital investments. He sits on the boards of Cambridge Real Estate (REIT IPO, July 2006), Mobinex, United Eagle Airlines, California University of Technology and Jin Jing Electric Company. He is also an Observer on the boards of and responsible for the monitoring of Vickers’ investments in the Asian Food Channel, Saybot and iPart. Dr. Chi is a CFA Charterholder and graduated from Cambridge University with 1st class honours in Engineering. He earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in organizational knowledge and information technology.

    Thomas Choong

    Dr. Thomas Choong is the founder and executive director of Waylion Advisory and Consulting, a practice focused on assisting tech, media and services companies in strategic business planning, development, alliances and capital access. Companies include a number of start-ups and some US, Swiss and French corporations, including Thierry Apoteker Consulting (TAC-Financial), Brandtology and Ohanae Inc etc. Dr. Choong was most recently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, of EAM International Ltd (“EAM”). The company co-founded by him provides innovative interactive digital media via network of touch-screens on a subscription and recurring revenue basis. The company enable telecommunications carrier, handset makers, content providers and their retail partners to support their consumer sales. The customers in the region include SingTel, AIS (Thailand), Telkomsel (Indonesia), Globe (Philippines) and Vibo (Taiwan).

    Prior to EAM, Dr. Choong started Elipva Ltd, a joint venture with Singapore Technologies Telemedia and the Lippo Group. Elipva is an innovative e-business software, solution and services company in Dec 1999. The company was awarded a major innovation development grant by IDA in recognition of the original software that it was developing. The company established more than 50 major customers in the region, these include companies such as General Electric, Schering Plough, Ministry of Health, United Overseas Bank, DHL, Denso, Seiko, Chartered Semicon etc. In Nov 2004, Elipva did a M&A with HK GEM board listed M-Dream Inworld Ltd which runs an online gaming and digital media business in HK and China. Dr. Choong was the executive director of M-Dream Inworld from 2004 to 2006.

    In Aug 2005, Dr. Choong ventured into life style and entertainment. He invested and formed Xi Yan Pte Ltd, an exclusive private dining establishment with its Hong Kong partners. Whilst the business is operated by full time staffs, Dr. Choong has been instrumental in its set up and established a client base since that includes ministers, dignitaries, head of corporations, artistes, celebrities from all over the region. He has also built a key clients relationship management system that profiles, segment and personalized engagement of each individual and organization. Prior to Elipva Ltd. Dr. Choong spent 2 years with Sun Microsystems since 1997 and was the Managing Director of iPlanet (a Sun Microsystems Inc and AOL/Netscape Alliance for its internet solution business) in South Asia. Thomas received the Sun Microsystems ASEAN Software business excellence award in 1998.

    Since 1990, Dry Choong held various regional management positions with IBM for more than 6 years as the general manager for its emerging network computing business in ASEAN. He was the regional Brand and Country Manager for IBM’s Unix systems business. He was instrumental in helping IBM chart its Unix brand, sales and marketing strategy and successfully break into the Unix market in Singapore and Asean/India. Dr. Choong was with Convex Computer for 2 years as the Asia Pacific Director for Sales/Marketing and was instrumental for major breakthroughs in introducing supercomputing to the new markets in Asia/Pacific with major sales in Singapore, China, Indonesia and India. As a result, was recognized with the Convex World Champions award. He was with Prime Computer for nearly 5 years from 1984, initially as a senior technical consultant in computer integrated manufacturing in the Asia region, setting up its CAD/CAM business and assisted with several project wins in the education, petro-chemical, ship-building and engineering industry. In 1987 he moved on to become its Asia regional sales support manager for systems, database, CAD/CAM, graphics and networking products. Prior to returning to Singapore, Dr. Choong spent 8 years in the UK. Of which, he spent 2 years with Ford Motor Company, UK as a control analyst in Computer Aided Manufacturing where he consulted in several major Ford Europe wide projects.

    In 1999-2000, Dr. Choong also served as an Adjunct Professor with the University of Singapore, Engineering Faculty. During his term, he assisted and advised in the setup of the Centre for Concurrent Engineering with the CAD/CAM Centre. To date, he has published and contributed to more than 40 papers and articles. Dry Choong graduated from the University of Bath with a BSc Engineering First Class Honours and a PhD in 1982 under the UK Science and Engineering Research Council scholarship.

    Wong Kien Keong

He founded Wong & Leow LLC, a firm of Singapore advocates & solicitors in August 1996, and Wong & Partners, a firm of Malaysian advocates & solicitors in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November 1997.     Tan Kim Seng

    Mr. Tan is a Managing Director and co-founder of 3V SourceOne Capital. He is currently a Committee Member of Singapore Venture Capital Association and formerly served as its Honorary Treasurer.

    He was previously an Executive Director and Principal Fund Manager of UOB Venture Management. Mr. Tan started his engineering career with Texas Instruments Singapore and subsequently joined Northern Telecom as a section head.

    He successfully ventured into banking industry in 1990 as an Assistant Vice President with United Overseas Bank Group. He was the Chairman of Retail Electronic Banking Committee of the Association of Banks in Singapore and Operation Committee Member of NETS Singapore.

    Mr. Tan holds a M.Sc. (Industrial Eng.) and a B.Eng (EE) (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore and is an alumnus of the US Venture Capital Institute. He is currently a Board Member of Hwa Chong Institution.

    Joey Gan

    Joey brings with her more than 15 years of experience in the sales, marketing and business development of information systems, business consulting and financial services. Her portfolio of clients span across industries in the banking, transportation, manufacturing, government, public utilities, education and more recently the local entrepreneurial industry in Singapore.

    She has been based in Hong Kong for nearly 11 years covering the North Asian region before returning to Singapore in end 2003. She is also a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) accredited by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI).

    She is currently working as a business development director with Ernst & Young Singapore.

    Alan Sevugan

    Sevugan, found and CEO of FriarTuck, is the driving force behind FriarTuck’s product commercialization and business process. He also designed and developed FriarTuck’s flagship product and made it to its current market leading position.     Darius Cheung

    Darius Cheung, founder of mobile security firm tenCube, is one of four individual winners of this year’s Singapore Youth Award.

    The Award, started in 1975, is Singapore’s highest recognition for under 35s who have excelled in areas like entrepreneurship, science, and the arts.

    TenCube was acquired by security juggernaut McAfee in 2010 for more than US$10 million (S$12.3 million). Their flagship product is the WaveSecure, which allows mobile phone users to protect their lost or stolen devices and the data inside them.

    Darius now works as the director of consumer mobile technologies for McAfee in Singapore.

    Kelly Choo

    Kelly was driven by his passion about social media and its impact, he decided to take on a role as a teaching assistant in the 1st Asian Facebook development course after his graduation. He was previously involved in a computer security role at the Singapore Armed Forces. He also worked in the US as an IT consultant while studying in UPenn/ Wharton, and more significantly, was involved in the launching of two start-ups as well as advising a few more.

    Eric Tachibana

    Before joining Merrill Lynch, Eric was an entrepreneur for over 14 years – creating, building, and eventually exiting, successful small and mid-sized companies in Silicon Valley, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the U.K.

    Today Tachibana continues his entrepreneurial endeavors as a regional angel investor, strategic adviser, and mentor for young, developing entrepreneurs, serving as founding non-executive director for 7 companies ranging from IT, to F&B, to retail/fashion.

    Eric is also an author of 8 books on technology development and innovation management and continues to earn regional industry recognition as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore business school.
