The S@S model for entrepreneurship empowerment

E-Resource Hub
The Start-Up@Singapore E-resource Hub seeks to provide an online platform which facilitates the accessibility to entrepreneurship materials within our network. It hosts a wide diversity of resources such as the latest articles pertaining to the entrepreneurial scene, training materials catering to different skill sets and requirements of entrepreneurs, an overview of upcoming events as well as interactive mediums which aims to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship. This newly-adopted initiative promises to elevate academic entrepreneurship up another notch.
Mentorship
Start-Up@Singapore is able to draw upon its diverse pool of top notch mentors to cater to the different needs and requirements of the participants of its main business plan competition. Right from the preliminary round, participants are given the opportunity to participate in events that provide expertise input and constructive knowledge. Semi Finalists will then be accorded a special mentorship programme to further refine their business ideas before presenting on the grand stage. Mentorship is highly emphasized by the main competition and mentors are reviewed on a yearly basis to ensure that our participants receive only the best advice available.
Judging Process
Start-Up@Singapore takes pride in providing a judging process of the highest caliber for the main business plan competition by bringing together leading professionals in various industries, venture capitalists as well as respected academics. The rigorous judging process serves not only to ensure that the winning business plans are of the highest quality but also to ensure that each participant will be able to maximize his takeaway from the competition through the constructive feedback provided.
Events
Organizing events has always been one of the core competencies of Start-Up@Singapore, and it remains as a main contributor to the academic model of the competition. Every Start-Up@Singapore event works towards inspiring and educating the participants while internalizing innovation, professionalism and effectiveness. Each year, events have been tailored to address the present and future market needs as well as challenges faced by entrepreneurs. Last year, the 8 events held drew in a total of 1300 participants and top notch speakers such as Ms Elim Chew, founder of 77th Street, Saeed Amidi, founder of Plug and Play Tech Centre, and Mr Dennis Goh, founder of Hungrygowhere. We were also fortunate to have Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, previous CEO of SGX and Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister of Information, Communication and the Arts as our Guests of Honor.
Funding Opportunities
Start-Up@ Singapore identifies with the financial challenges faced by entrepreneurs and provides a catalogue of financial endowments and opportunities to receive funding. The winner and runner-up of both the main and youth category of the main business plan competition receive a substantial amount of prize money while all semi-finalists are given opportunities to pitch to real angel investors and venture capitalists at different stages of the competition. Participants in the main business plan competition will also be part of a closely-knit network of potential investors provided by our partners ASME and SOE as well as the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre.
